Community Involvement

Square Heels has been active in fund raising for Hospice. During the past decade, NC square dancers have raised more than $1,000,000 for Hospice!

For many years, Square Heels supported Relay for Life—camping at Chapel Hill High School Stadium.  Not only did the group walk all night—they square danced to the vast amusement of the other fundraisers!

In April 2010, four squares of Square Heels dancers rustled up a night of fun for Twin Lakes Retirement Community's Wild West Nite in Burlington!

In addition to entertaining residents of local retirement homes, Square Heels’ dancers have performed at Carrboro’s July 4th Celebrations and at Chapel Hill’s Apple Chill Festifall.

Currently, Square Heels has teamed with the Town of Carrboro to introduce Modern Square Dance to non-dancers.  In 2009, the August Summerdipity was so successful that Square Heels returned for December’s Jam.

On August 11, 2010, Summerdipity will again showcase the friendly Square Heels dancers.  Area non-dancers will join Square Heels for an evening of fun and laughter!  First, they’ll be wowed by Plus dancing by the “professionals”!  Then the guests will be dancing within minutes—discovering how modern square dance challenges the mind and the body!  The only equipment required—comfy shoes and a smile!
